another day, another fashion trade house saved by Chanel.
Scottish cashmere company Barrie, which “designs, develops and manufactures highest quality cashmere knitwear for some of the world’s most premier and prestigious couture houses…” has worked with Chanel for more than 25 years.
created at the turn of the 20th century by two entrepreneurs, Walter Barrie and Robert Kersel, Barrie set out to create the ‘finest knitted hosiery and underwear’. in the 1920’s they introduced sweaters and twin-set items and by the 1930’s their main focus was fashion.
Barrie is an important arm in the fashion community because not only was the transformation process of cashmere from fibre to knitting yarn developed in the UK but the unique clean and clear waters of Scotland ensure a special softness and beauty to the final product.
